Indeed, in connection with the construction of the

roof, girders had to be taken down, and after extra

plates had been added in order to strengthen same,

were again hoisted and fixed in position.

I beg to enclose for your perusal the original

drawings of the roof prepared by the Architects,

and would request that if the Government have any

12 Nov. 1908. doubt as to my statements these drawings be submitt-

ed to any recognised Architects in London, and I

would venture to submit that their report would be

such as to confirm my opinion that they are un-

worthy of a Government work that has cost about

one million dollars of public funds.

Owing to the vagaries of the Architects (even

after the 12th November, 1908) practically another

years' delay ensued, this brought the period up to

December, 1909.

I beg also to attach copy of a minute that I

forwarded to Mr. Denison, the senior member of the

Firm that will partly explain the difficulty that

I had with the Architects even as late as the 27th

August, 1909.

On perusal of this communication it will be

noted that Mr. Denison admitted that he was unable

to prepare the drawings, and he also promised to

confirm important matters in writing; I waited

in the

several days, but he failed to do so;

meantime he submitted other plans and sketches to
